19th ANNUAL ART STUDIO CLEARANCE SALE

Record Numbers of Bargain Hunters Anticipated

JANUARY 26–27, 2013

(Columbus, Ohio)— Ohio Designer Craftsmen’s annual Art Studio Clearance Sale, a juried event that brings out bargain hunters despite chilly January temperatures, is expected to draw thousands to the Ohio State Fairgrounds later this month.  Scheduled for January 26–27 at the Lausche Building on the Ohio State Fairgrounds, the sale will offer limited-edition and one-of-a-kind fine art and craft works by over 120 artists.

This is the one opportunity in the year for shoppers to purchase high-quality fine art and fine craft at discount prices. Many of the artists have also exhibited at Winterfair and the Columbus Arts Festival, where they sell their work at full price.

Over the years, savvy shoppers have figured out that the Clearance Sale is the place to find handcrafted jewelry, wheel-thrown pottery, fine wearables, blown glass, photography, paintings and more at price reductions of 20%–60%.  “It’s a great way to decorate your home or office with studio art or buy limited-edition gifts for yourself or others at great prices,” said ODC Executive Director Sharon Kokot.

Now in its 19th year, the show has grown steadily, as word of the excellent deals to be had has gotten out. “This is the only time during the year that many of these artists reduce their prices,” noted Kokot. “Savvy shoppers have discovered that this is the perfect place to purchase high-quality, handcrafted work at lower prices. And with a number of artists participating for the first time, there’s sure to be a great selection of items.”

The Lausche Building at the Ohio State Fairgrounds is located on the north side of 17th Ave., directly off Interstate 71.  “The great thing about our location at the fairgrounds is that there is plenty of parking close to the building, so everyone can get in easily,” said Kokot. Hours are 10 a.m.–5 p.m. on Saturday, January 26, and noon–5 p.m. on Sunday, January 27. Admission is just $6; ODC members and children 12 and under free.

The Art Studio Clearance Sale is produced by Ohio Designer Craftsmen (ODC), a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting awareness and appreciation of fine craft, and helping artists develop and enhance professional skills. ODC receives ongoing funding from the Greater Columbus Arts Council, Ohio Arts Council and the Columbus Foundation. Membership is open to both artists and craft enthusiasts.
