SUMMARY:Functional Ceramics Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Mark Nafziger and Lisa Orr are the presenters at this year’s Functional Ceramics Workshop. \nIn 1977\, Phyllis Blair Clark and the College of Wooster Art Department hosted the “Wooster Workshop\,” with artists Ginny and Tom Marsh as demonstrators. A total of 35 students attended. That workshop—and the accompanying exhibition—expanded over the years thanks to Clark’s guidance\, eventually becoming the highly regarded “Functional Ceramics Workshop.” In 1987\, Clark moved the event to the newly renovated Wayne Center for the Arts. Over 200 artists attended that year. In 2012\, she handed the reigns (and the whistle!) over to Ohio Designer Craftsmen. We are honored to continue the tradition of presenting outstanding workshops to a community of potters. \nClick the venue website link below for more information or to register REGISTRATION CLOSED

SUMMARY:Traversing Textiles
DESCRIPTION:Opens Sunday\, February 11th – Closes Saturday\, March 30th \n“Textiles and fiber are an integral part of human lives\, aiding in survival\, defining cultures\, and expressing values. Fiber traverses every aspect of our lives\, from clothing\, household goods\, shelter\, insulation\, storytelling\, toys\, and fiber optic cables to name a few.  The use of fiber is practically as old as man\, and has evolved from hand skills to mechanized processes but is once again enjoying a resurgence of basic techniques and appreciation for finely crafted hand work. \n“Contemporary fiber and textile artists are increasingly using their skills and media in innovative ways to produce work with an artistic focus\, often with messages spanning social commentary\, political\, or environmental concerns. Both utilitarian and artistic uses of fiber and textiles are represented by the work of numerous artists and craftspeople\, utilizing a variety of techniques including weaving\, felting\, tatting\, stitching\, quilting\, and basketry.” \n-Char Norman\, curator
