Couple on Bench

Lompoc, CA
Wood, steel, clay

"My series of couples on a bench goes way back to my childhood. There was a children’s TV show in Phoenix that used to have comedy skits with people sitting on a park bench. I used wood for the base so I could drill into it to hold the steel bench in place, and clay for the people because of its modeling properties. The story is told by the couple’s body language." Born in Phoenix, Arizona, Wesley Anderegg earned a BS degree in geography from Arizona State University. It was there that he began his education in ceramics, later studying at Anderson Ranch Arts Center and the Archie Bray Foundation for the Ceramic Arts. He served as resident artist at both places. Anderegg’s work has been shown in numerous solo and group exhibitions, and has been featured in many books and publications. It can also be found in the permanent collections of the Renwick Gallery, the Mint Museum of Craft and Design, as well as the Columbus Museum of Art, among others.
