Collaborative Clay Workshop

Wyman Woods Shelterhouse, Grandview Heights, OH

During this dynamic demonstration-only workshop, ceramics artists Kyle & Kelly Phelps will share the solid construction & hollowing techniques used to create their figurative sculptures. The Phelps work collaboratively on each piece, rotating the tasks between them in an assembly line approach. Their sculptures are inspired by the memories and experiences of growing up in a working-class community.

Registration Fee: $80

Student Registration Fee: $40

Registration fee includes boxed lunch.

About the Artists

Twin brothers Kelly & Kyle Phelps have worked collaboratively in their shared studio space since 1997. Kyle is a Professor of Art, where he teaches ceramics, sculpture and 3D design at the University of Dayton. Kelly is a Professor of Art at Xavier University, where he teaches ceramics, sculpture and 3D design. The two received their BFAs in ceramics and sculpture from Ball State University, Muncie, Indiana, and their MFAs from the University of Kentucky, Lexington. Their collaborative sculptures have been featured in over 200 exhibitions and over 200 publications, and are part of numerous private and corporate collections.

    Established in 1963, Ohio Designer Craftsmen engages and enriches the community through high-quality exhibitions and education programs, and supports/promotes the professional development of craft artists. The organization owns and operates the Ohio Craft Museum in the Grandview Heights area and has organized Winterfair in Columbus for over 45 years. Ongoing funding for Ohio Designer Craftsmen is provided by the Ohio Arts Council, Greater Columbus Arts Council and the Columbus Foundation.
