Matt Long is well known for his soda-fired porcelain forms. He received his BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute in 1995 and his MFA from Ohio University in 1997. He taught at the University of Florida before joining the University of Mississippi in 2005, where he is now an associate professor of art and a graduate coordinator. He was the first visiting artist at the Red Lodge Clay Center; in 2006, he oversaw the construction of their first kiln, designed specifically for soda firing.
Chandra Debuse
After discovering clay during a community throwing class, Chandra DeBuse went on to study ceramics, receiving her MFA from the University of Florida in 2010. She currently maintains a studio in Kansas City, Kansas. Chandra uses incising, inlay, brushwork and sgraffito techniques to illustrate her thrown and handbuilt porcelain forms with imagery from the natural world. After applying translucent glazes for color, she fires her work multiple times in an electric kiln.
