DIY and other specialty workshops are for adults and teens who want to try out new media in a fun and social atmosphere. The media offered often align with the seasons or with exhibitions in the gallery space, such as quilt surface design, weaving, jewelry-making, mixed media and more. Embroidered Photography

DIY Embroidery Craft (In-Person) Workshop
with Mackenzie Johnston-Green

Wednesdays – October 13 & 20 – 6:30-8:30pm

Artist and educator Mackenzie Johnston-Green will guide participants in altering a photograph onto fabric with embroidery stitches. Learn basic stitches and explore conceptual design options that are either abstract or tell a story. The possibilities are endless!

Fee: $40, includes all supplies
Open to adults and teens of all skill levels. Great beginner class!
Participants will be asked to email an image prior to class, to be printed in black & white on fabric. Start looking for that special photo you’ve taken to embellish!

Make a unique animal night light using folding and cutting techniques. Hiroshi will give a brief artist talk about his work, which is part of the “Crossover: Trends in Paper” exhibition in the museum.
Fee: $25, includes all supplies to make one night light. Extra kits will be available for purchase. Adults/Teen skills needed: basic cutting using an X-Acto knife, scoring and folding.

Hiroshi Hayakawa combines the traditional techniques of origami (paper folding) and kirigami (paper cutting) to create unique, three-dimensional artwork. His paper animals are illuminated by LED lights internally, by taking advantage of the translucency of the paper material to its full effect. Hiroshi is a professor at CCAD learn more…

Only $10 each! Available for purchase in the Ohio Craft Museum gift shop. Perfect for a fun DIY craft for both children and adults. Kit includes everything needed to create this sweet little gnome; felted sweater piece, wool, pencil, needle, embroidery floss and pom-pom. Many fabric designs to choose from!
