Mary Ann Crago’s favorite thing about making art is the making. It’s the creative process that she loves most and the discoveries that happen along the way. Inspired by nature, her work explores the beauty of objects whose histories are muddled, hidden and lost.
The bird-like figures who appear throughout her work are the “guardians” of it all. Guardians of dreams, guardians of history, guardians of people and place. Each piece is built from a collection of smaller parts and each smaller part is integral to the identity of the larger work.
